Boulder Entertainment
Boulder
offers a vast selection of entertainment options for almost any taste.
Whether one prefers to shop among the interesting stores along the
famed Pearl Street Mall or visit music and art venues, Boulder has it all.
Boulder Theater and Musical Performances
The Boulder Dinner Theater, located on Arapahoe Avenue,
gives guests the chance to enjoy dinner and then a theater show. New
shows, often Broadway-style musicals, are offered every few months. The
theater has won many awards, including Best Live Theater in several
local and regional publications, Top Dinner Theater by the 2006 Rocky
Mountain News, and Best Theater Performance.
The Fox Theatre and Café is Boulder’s
number one venue for live entertainment. Local, regional and national
acts play all sorts of musical performances at this hot spot near the
university. The Fox is a favorite among students and residents of Boulder alike, as it features an intimate setting for live shows.
Boulder Museums and Art
Those who are looking for a true visionary experience will want to visit Boulder’s Museum of Contemporary
Art. This non-profit visual and performing arts facility explores
contemporary artistic ideas and features amazing performances,
exhibitions and educational classes. The museum also hosts the annual
the Boulder International Fringe Festival, which features 70 different
artists who are on the fringe of the art scene, both nationally and
internationally. The Fringe Festival is known for always having some
truly innovative work.
The Boulder History Museum, located on University Hill, has over 30,000 local historical artifacts on display. The collection highlights Boulder’s unique history and place in Colorado.
The museum chooses to rotate its exhibits 2-3 times every year, and
also conducts programs and learning activities for people of all ages
year around. The museum is open four and a half days every week, except
on holidays.
Shopping in Boulder
Historic downtown Boulder
and the Pearl Street Mall is an exciting place to shop and enjoy the
local scenery. The Pearl Street Mall is an open-air pedestrian walkway
that stretches for several blocks, allowing visitors to stop into
whatever store or restaurant they like. The buildings are traditional
brick and stone works, most of which have been fully restored. Street
performers often entertain the crowds on warm summer days. Many fine
eating establishments and high-class bars are in this area, which makes
it a favorite weekend spot for nightlife. The Twenty-Ninth Street Mall,
which just opened in 2006, also offers more in the way of larger stores.
For students at the University of Colorado,
the Hill district is undeniably the center of off-campus social life.
In addition to the aforementioned Fox Theater, the Hill has numerous
shops, dining facilities, music clubs, and bars. Along with the Pearl
Street Mall area, it is definitely one of the liveliest parts of Boulder.
Those interested in nature will want to check out the Flagstaff Nature Center,
located in the hills just west of town. This rustic log cabin has many
interesting illustrations and displays about the ecology and wildlife
in the Boulder area.
