Estes Park Schools

Estes Park schools are in the Park School District R-3. Colorado’s 2007 Teacher of the Year is Susan Ryder from this school district. As might be expected for a town this size, there is one public elementary school, one intermediate school, one public middle school and one high school. All four Estes Park schools are rated highly. The elementary school has 292 students, the intermediate school 316 students, the middle school 297 students, and the high school 423 students. The schools are all located in the southeastern part of town just north of Estes Park Golf Course and draw their students from throughout the greater Estes Valley, which has about 10,000 residents. Eagle Rock School, a residential high school, is also nearby.

Estes Park Medical Center

There is one official hospital in Estes Park, the Estes Park Medical Center. This hospital is full-service and features a 15-bed acute care unit and a 60-bed skilled nursing facility. There are also specialty and family medical clinics at the hospital. The Salud Family Health Center offers another option for health care in Estes Park.

Estes Park Employment

Employment in Estes Park is mostly based in the tourism industry. A substantial number of people who work for the National Park Service in Rocky Mountain National Park live in the nearby town. The number of jobs available increases greatly during the peak summer season. The unemployment rate in Estes Park is only 4%, below the national average. The major employers in Estes Park include the R-3 School District, Estes Park Medical Center, the city itself, the Holiday Inn, the YMCA of the Rockies, the Harmony Foundation and the Estes Valley Recreation and Park District. Basically, besides the tourism industry, most Estes Park residents work in the medical field, as educators, or as outdoor industry employees such as park rangers. Or, they live in Estes Park and commute to another city for work.
