Lyons Colorado Entertainment
Though Lyons
is a relatively small town, it offers a surprising array of
entertainment and things to do. The city contains several wonderful
places to eat, as well as a variety of musical and historical
attractions. Lyons is also host to a number of entertaining festivals throughout the year.
Lyons Restaurants and Dining Experience
One eating establishment that thoroughly mixes food and music is the Cajun pub Oskar Blues Grill and Brewery. Lyons
oldest brewery, Oskar Blues offers a delightful touch of Southern
hospitality to go with the delicious food, beer and blues music. Live
music is guaranteed every weekend and most weeknights. In addition to
top musicians from around the state and country, Oskar Blues regularly
plays host to the Lyons High School Jazz Band. Bluegrass jams happen every Tuesday.
The Barking Dog Café, an oddly named little coffeehouse,
is another popular dining option for locals. This unique café serves
great coffee, tea, soups, smoothies and sandwiches. It also serves
scrumptious breakfast burritos and homemade muffins. The Barking Dog
also provides box lunches for hikes and rides. Another Lyons
specialty is Bloomberries Concessions, which brings their booth to many
of the town’s festivals. Bloomberries provides a delicious smorgasbord
of summer time food, including hot dogs, brats, lemonades and limeades,
funnel cakes and ice cream.
Part of the Colorado experience is authentic Mexican cuisine, and nobody in Lyons offers that like Cilantro Mary. They offer incredible Mexican dishes that cannot be found anywhere else in Colorado.
The Cilantro Mary menu includes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian
dishes and the food is prepared with the fresh and naturally grown
ingredients.
Another great place to dine in Lyons
during the summer is the Outlaw Saloon. This Western-themed bar and
grill aims to offer the best live entertainment in town, with country
western music, rock and roll, blues and a karaoke bar. The Outlaw also
offers pool tournaments every Wednesday and Texas Hold ‘Em poker
tournaments every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Live music can be
found playing every weekend.
Lyons Music
Lyons
has a strong musical heritage, which is evident from their abundance of
live musical entertainment. This especially applies to blues, jazz, and
bluegrass music, and the number of annual musical festivals points to
this fact. In June, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival comes to Lyons, followed by the Rockygrass Festival in July. In August, the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival is held in Lyons, as is the Festival of the Mabon in September.
Lyons History
Those who are curious about the history of Lyons
will want to visit the Lyons Historical District. The Lyons Historical
Society developed the Lyons Historical District in 1980 to preserve an
old section of the town that was still standing. The district is made
up of 15 sandstone buildings that were built from 1880-1917. Historical
accounts of these buildings and tour maps are available at the Lyons Visitor Center. Some of the buildings include Griff Evans Homestead, the Old Stone Church, the old Lyons School, a dynamite storage building and an old train depot.
